about

Trinary formed briefly in 2005 in Washington DC with the goal of focusing on improvisation at a slow and contemplative pace. The trio consisted of Nik Francis (Audiomulch software, percussion), Tyler Higgins (reeds, vibraphone), and Rob Thornton (electric bass). Prior to meeting with the trio, Francis developed a set of Audiomulch patches to generate sounds that would be used as templates for the form and timbre of Higgins's and Thornton's playing. The trio rehearsed for a few weeks prior to recording this album, and did one performance for Jeff Bagato's Electric Possible series.
